Relatives

On other Sunday afternoons, we would often go visiting to Aunt Sophie Olling, Uncle Lefty Petersen, or Uncle Jens Petersen. Usually the adults just sat around in a circle and talked. Once in a great while we would get Sophie's husband, Pete Olling, to play his squeeze box. That was always great entertainment. Uncle Jens Petersen lived on a farm east of Ringsted 3-4 miles. I remember the old farmstead had no running water and no electricity. They had a well for water and kerosine lanterns for light. Uncle Lefty Petersen lived in Ringsted only a block or so from our house. He was trained as a butter maker and worked at the Ringsted Creamery, then later he drove a fuel tank truck to supply farmers with petroleum products.
